WAHM Feature: Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Tough Times Review and Giveaway!
For a short period of time, I will be featuring a Work At Home Mom’s business. Businesses can include Etsy shops, ArtFire, Hyena Carts, Stella & Dot, MaryKay, Scentsy, etc. If you’re a work at home mom and would like to be featured on my blog, drop me an email for more details!
This week, I’m featuring Susan Heim, a parenting author and Chicken Soup for the Soul editor!
I started working as an editor for the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series in 2000 when I was hired by the company that was then publishing the books. After having twin boys in December 2003, I decided to stay home (I also have two older sons) and work as a freelance editor and writer. When Chicken Soup for the Soul moved to a new publisher, I approached them about continuing to work on the series. Fortunately, they were agreeable, and even offered me co-authorship on my first book with them, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Twins and More. To this day, I continue to edit and co-author books in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. I’ve also written or co-written four other parenting books. I love being able to work from home because it gives me a flexible schedule. I can be with my children after school and schedule my work time for when they’re in class and after they go to bed. Best of all, I love both of my jobs — being a mother and inspiring people with the books that I create.
Up for review, Susan sent me a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Devotional Stories for Tough Times! I’m a huge fan of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, so I was really excited to review this. This book focuses on 101 daily devotions to inspire and support you in your time of need. You’ll find a lot of comfort in this book that will help cheer you up and change your mood during your toughest times.

At one point or another, everyone goes through losses, illnesses, financial problems, family issues, grief, and more. Getting through these tough times can almost be impossible, however with a little support and inspiration you can get through anything. That’s why I enjoyed reading this book. Some of my favorite stories taught me that it is important to count your blessings and reach out to others. If you spend all your time focusing on what you don’t have, what you should have done, and why “everything bad always happens to you”, then you’re just submerging yourself with bad energy which will always come back around to bite you. Instead, focus on what you do have and how blessed you are in every situation. You’ll find yourself surrounded by good energy, good people, and good situations. If you reach out to others during your tough times, you’ll be surrounded by love and strength, which can help get you through anything.
I love that every story is personal and relates to some situations I’ve encountered in my own life. The book is complete with scriptures, prayers, and an all-around good vibe. After reading this book, I have more confidence that things will always get better with the right attitude, and that’s what I really needed to learn. Chicken Soup for the Soul books always teach me great lessons, and I hope that each of you consider reading this one to help you through your tough times!

April 10, 2013 at 5:52 pm (43 days ago)I have been reading the chicken soup series back when they first came out. It was as insightful then as it is now. Can’t wait to read the one for “tough times”. I’m going through a rough patch and this can definitely help.
